London Meeting Proposes to Outlaw Anyone Denying Climate Change • Mirror Daily

(Mirror Daily, United States) – Not much gets past the media’s eagle eye, but sometimes the most curious subjects are only caught in writing by the sharpest-eyed journalists. Such is the case of the semi-secret meeting that proposed to outlaw anyone denying climate change.

It was strange that a forum of such influential people with such big implications did not get more air time. The UN-sponsored climate meeting that took place in London was an international conference calling top judges and lawyers – whose names were not released upon request – to attend.

If their wish becomes true, governments, corporations or individuals questioning the “science” ever again would be considered out of the law. The three-day conference was hosted by London’s Supreme Court under the name of “Climate Change and the Law.”

Even though details about the funding were also kept private, we know the UK government, the Supreme Court itself, and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) shared the tab. UNEP’s interest in such a conference is obvious, seeing that it has been one of the most vocal voices alarming us about global warming in the past 40 years.

Both organizer and chairman of the conference, Supreme Court Judge Lord Carnwath is one of the most a fervent believers in man-made climate change; he has also worked with UNEP since 2002.

Despite the strange aura of mystery surrounding the conference, the keynote speech was made available on YouTube, and 195 pictures of the attendees uploaded on Flickr. Given by Philippe Sands, a professor of law at University College, London, the address emphasized the need for the courts to step in and enforce measures against global warming.

Why is now the time for judges to take a stance? Because the UN’s climate conference in Paris is unlikely to be able to enforce a worldwide legally binding treaty that will limit the rise in global temperatures to 2 degrees C from pre-industrial levels.

In spite of the “overwhelming” evidence in favor of climate change, there are still plenty of “scientifically qualified, knowledgeable and influential individuals” who keep on denying that the atmosphere is warming, the ice is melting and the sea levels are rising – all because of the emissions of CO2.

Sands explained that the world’s courts, empowered by the International Court of Justice, could end the charade once and for all; in other words, make it illegal for anyone to question the agreed “science.” Furthermore, such a legally binding international law could be used to enforce measures in reducing the emissions as needed, in order to stop global warming in its tracks.
