Microsoft VR headset will be compatible with low-end PCs.
Are you tempted into trying out the new VR experience? Most of us believe that the future of PC games is in virtual reality. While the latest developments in VR and AR area shows that screen-based experiences will soon become obsolete, it will be a long time before we can afford buying such a device.
Luckily, some companies such Samsung (Gear VR) and Microsoft are trying to produce VR headsets and sell them at affordable prices. When you come to think of it, high-performance VR headsets such as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are not that expensive taking into account how much we have to pay in order to buy a gaming rig. But what happens when you don’t have a VR-ready PC?
Recently, Microsoft showed us that even low-end PC will be able to run VR applications, thanks to an ingenious device called Microsoft VR headset. It might not be as powerful as its competitors, but it least it gives us a glimpse into the future of VR gaming.
Unfortunately, according to Microsoft’s statements, the Microsoft VR headset is set to launch in the second part of January 2017. However, the company left behind a little incentive.
Last week, the tech company released a tool called Microsoft Holographic First Run. In all appearances, the app released by Microsoft is very similar to the popular web-based app ‘Can I Run It’. Once downloaded, the application will analyze your computer’s specifications in order to determine if it is compatible with Microsoft Gear VR.
So, according to the little diagnosis tool, in order to run the Microsoft VR headset, your computer must have a quad-core processor or a dual-core processor with hyperthreading. In addition, you must also have 4GB, and a DirectX 12 compatible video card.
Furthermore, the application also tells you that your computer must support the USB 3.0 technology. The application doesn’t say anything about required disk space, but it’s safe to assume that you’re going to need at least 20 GB.
Also, it would be a good idea to purchase an SSD and install the application on it. You may be surprised of how much of a difference can an SSD make.
Now, there’s one more thing on the menu – the price of Microsoft VR headset. According to the tech company, the device’s retail price will probably start at $300.
