Having more fat means losing weight will be harder
(Mirror Daily, United States) – There’s another factor fighting against weight loss, as the more fat you have, the harder it is to lose it because of a protein naturally produced. It seems people who are overweight have a tough time shedding the extra pounds for another reason. Even if you’re keeping with good nutrition, and regular exercise, there is something still working against you.
Researchers at the University of Cambridge and a university in Japan, found that the sLR11 protein in our bodies “actively inhibit weight loss”. It chokes the fat burning process, particularly thermogenesis. That is essentially the body’s ability to melt the fat and producing heat energy instead that keeps our bodies warm.
For example, that is why certain diets recommend drinking cold water, even iced. The body will become colder, and it will enhance the number of calories burnt in order to bring it back to its proper temperatures. This happens due to the ‘good’ brown fat, that is usually found around our neck and shoulders. It’s one of the type of fat tissues, along with the ‘bad’ white fat that is usually found around our belly.
However, the sLR11 protein inhibits the ‘good’ brown fat’s ability, or at least lessens its prowess. For most though, it’s not a huge issue.
The team of researchers found that people who are overweight have a higher number of sLR11 proteins. So, they have drawn the conclusion that their numbers are in direct correlation to the total amount of fat in the body. Which means, that the fatter the patient, the more difficult it would be for them to trim down those extra pounds.
Their findings have uncovered that weight loss is a much more complicated process than believed. It’s more than just nutrition, exercise, and sheer strength of will. Those remain three very important staples in the process, but there are also factors outside of their control that makes it a little more difficult. It’s in their hopes that their study will aid in the creation of different therapies to aid people suffering from obesity.
It’s becoming one of the most common causes of premature death in the United States, as it sets the onset of issues such as cardiovascular problems or diabetes. It also places the foundation of more studies on fat on a molecular level. Perhaps new treatments and new information could be gathered in order to polish future therapies.
The researchers also recommend to try and lose weight quickly, preferably just as soon as it sets in. This is so the body won’t adapt itself to the change, and start secreting extra sLR11 protein, which will only make it harder in the long run.
