(Mirror Daily, United States) – India’s beloved actress Sridevi Kapoor, 54, was found dead in a hotel bathtub on February 24. Medics ruled that Sridevi, who was also known as Bollywood’s first female superstar, accidentally drowned after having a heart attack.
The film icon was escorted to her final resting place in Mumbai by family and tens of thousands of grieving fans earlier this week.
Her husband told the media that the couple was in a luxury hotel suite in Dubai when the accident happened. They were attending the wedding ceremony of a nephew. The man said he had to knock the door of the bathroom down only to see his wife ‘lying motionless in a bathtub full of water.’
Sridevi’s spouse reportedly tried to revive her along with one of his friends. The police were called at the scene at 9 pm local time. The star’s brother-in-law confirmed the death. She was 54 when she died.
An Entire Country is Mouring Sridevi
Sridevi’s real name is Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan. She started acting when she was just 4-years-old. At the age of 16, she made a debut with the movie called ‘Solva Sawan.’ At 20, she became famous with her role in ‘Sadma’ (Shock). Most of her characters were outspoken and funny, which contrasted the typical attitude of the Bollywood female character at the time.
In 1996, she wedded Boney Kapoor, a movie producer with whom she has two daughters. After a lengthy pause, she returned to the movie set with ‘English Vinglish’ (2012) followed by her most recent film, ‘Mom’ (2017).
In 2013, the Indian government awarded her one of the highest civilian honor, the Padma Shri, for her contribution to the country’s movie industry. The country’s Prime Minister released an official statement in the wake of her death.
