food dangerous for the health •

The recall is justified seeing as most of the GoGo squeeZ products are targeted at children.

(Mirror Daily, United States) – There has been quite a tumultuous period for organic food producers and distributors. Incidents like the one with the Dole salad infected with listeria, then the raw cashew nuts from Trader Joe’s that posed a high salmonella infection risk, the Hy-Vee macadamia nuts that were also suspected of carrying the same bacteria, the alfalfa sprouts that sent almost a dozen people to the hospital and so on. Now, mold concerns caused GoGo squeeZ applesauce to be recalled.

Since the beginning of the year, there have been quite a few health scares caused by organic, natural foods. It first began with the pre-washed, pre-packed salads produced and distributed by Dole. The salad bags managed to send more than a dozen people to the hospital due to listeria infection.

Then there were alfalfa sprouts that were contaminated with salmonella. The sprouts also caused the hospitalization of a few citizens. Maybe the scares led other factories to examine their machinery and products more carefully, or just spiked the number of CDS and FDA controls, but now there are a lot of voluntary recalls going on.

Not a week, or two, goes by without a company issuing a voluntary recall of a product that is suspected of being contaminated with a sort of bacteria, or some other kind of health dangerous pathogen.

This week it’s GoGo squeeZ’s turn. Mold concerns caused GoGo squeeZ applesauce to be recalled. But not all products are targeted. Only the pouches of applesauce that belong to the lots that expire between December 2015 and March 2017 were affected by the mold.

The Organic products from GoGo squeeze and the latest YoghurtZ are not included in the recall because they were not processed in the faulty machine.

According to the official statement issued by the company, the recall was caused by the fact that employees found traces of mold residue in two of the factory’s product pumps.

For the moment, the company has suspended all activity in the Traverse City-based factory until the residue is cleaned up. The activity will be restored after all the equipment checks out.

Stores are being urged to send the product back as quickly as possible so that the children will avoid exposure to possibly contaminated applesauce. Customers who already purchased the GoGo sauce can sign up for a replacement voucher on their website or by dialing 1-844-275-5841.
