(Mirror Daily, United States) – Shaving is a hassle for men and women alike. It causes ingrown, burns and cuts and it takes a lot of time to get rid of the unwanted hair. But this is where Skarp makes an entrance – a new product that’s currently being funded through Kickstarter.
Even though there are 20 days left on the clock, Skarp has already surpassed its initial goal and raised over $650,000. Traditional razors have several disadvantages, but the worst of them all is the fact that they can’t be recycled – for health reasons – so they end up piling up in garbage dumps.
The environmentally-friendly Skarp aims to change that by providing consumers with a “safer, greener, and more efficient shaving experience for all.” Unlike the razor blades that need to be regularly replaced, the innovative razor is a money-saver all around.
Equipped with a low-powered laser that the designer guarantees it lasts 50,000 hours, Skarp – the Swedish equivalent for “sharp” – saves you a lot of cash. The device uses the intense pulse light technology invented by Morgan Gustavsson in 1989, the same technique currently used in hair removal treatments.
For obvious health reasons, the Skarp razors don’t emit UV; at the same time, the laser it uses has too little power to cause damage to the skin. You just wave Skarp over your skin – exactly like a magic wand – and the hair falls off.
Sounds hard to believe? Skarp explains that even though it was a known fact that particular wavelengths of light could cut through the chromophores of dark hair, it was a difficult task to find an effective way to cut light hair. With the help of Binun, who joined four years later, the technology is finally here.
Powered with an AAA battery, Skarp promises a month of normal use. If you fear the smell of burnt hair, fear no more; the hair isn’t burnt during the laser-process, so there’s no smell. Additionally, this razor holds the upper hand over traditional laser hair removal because it doesn’t enter the skin, thus avoiding plenty of complications.
Soon you’ll be able to get rid of that hipster beard in an efficient and problem-free way with the Skarp, as the designer has already identified preliminary manufacturing partners, according to the Kickstarter page.
