The Google Glass might be making a comeback
(Mirror Daily, United States) – Although it spiked interest in 2012 when it was launched, Google Glass was a market failure but now Google files new patents for Glass.
When it first came out, the device was something new and revolutionary which was interesting especially for the people, who were into gadgets and who wanted to have everything that was new on the market. But there were some downsides to it as well. First of all, not everyone, regardless of their passion for gadgets can afford to pay $1.500 for a pair of such glasses. Plus, the release was limited and Google didn’t make many efforts to sell their product. Moreover, there have also been some privacy concerns regarding the product. All in all, it didn’t sell and Google lost the investments.
However, they seem to not have lost the enthusiasm and they have recently filed new patents with the FCC which shows us that they are still working on the device. New photos of the Google Glass can be found on the FCC website. There are also test reports and a user manual.
Here are some of the features the new Google Glass should have: a power button on the back and a plastic cube above the right eye or lens. The plastic cube is actually the one allowing you to use the device.
Besides this, you also have a camera which is positioned near the display, on the top, if you want to take a picture you have to press the camera. If you want to record a video, you should hold the camera down. You’ll know if it’s on when you see a green light. To navigate the device you have a touchpad located on the flat side of the device.
Although Google’s competitors have not yet come up with a similar device, the company issued a confidentiality document that states they want to keep everything confidential because of the intense competition the product would have.
Of course there are the virtual reality devices such as the HoloLens, but they don’t really have anything to do with the device Google has created.
In conclusion, the Google Glass might turn out to be a market failure again or it might actually be a success, especially among gadget lovers.
