Magsafe power connector •

Macbook Air is due to be released later this year and will feature just a single USB Type C port and a headphone jack. The USB Type-C port is reversible and can potentially power or charge a computer.

Macbook Air was introduced by Steve Jobs in 2008 and had the barest minimum ports-a single USB 2.0 port and a Micro-DVI port for connecting a display. It had also a Magsafe power connector and a headphone jack.

The 2014 Macbook Air also had the same configuration except an extra USB port and Thunderbolt Connector instead of the Micro –DVI. The popularity of the Macbook Air gave credence to the belief that consumers are willing to trade ports for portability.  The next iteration of the Macbook Air is rumored to have a single USB-C type connector and a headphone jack.

USB Type-C cables are not on shelves and were on display at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this week. It can handle speeds up to 10 gigabits per second and could replace the Thunder Port in the current Macbook Air versions.
