Scientists empathize with the victims of poorly chosen hairstyles on such a level that they devised an algorithm that helps people try out different hairstyles without a pair of scissors in a room.
The new software requires a clear, portrait photo of a user. After it scanned the facial features of the individual in question, it can create various simulations with hairstyles chosen by the user.
For example, you upload a picture of yourself and then type in “bob,” “pixie,” “asymmetric bob,” or even “the 1930s,” or “India.”
After that, the specially-designed algorithm searches the internet for photos containing those specific results, mapping the face of the user onto the results.
This new revolutionary software that can help you choose a new hairstyle safely is called Dreambit, and it was developed by scientists from Washington University.
The tool’s design is based on previous facial recognition and processing software, combining the algorithms of age progression and three-dimensional reconstruction in a unique style that creates the high-quality blended images that help users find their most suited style.
Apart from the fashion applications, the software can also be used to generate the different looks that a fugitive might adopt when trying to escape the law. It can also be used to see how time will affect the face of an individual.
“With missing children, people often dye their hair or change the style so age-progressing just their face is not enough. This is a first step in trying to imagine how a missing person’s appearance might change over time,”
declared Ira Kemelmacher-Shlizerman, one of the scientists involved in the project.
