(Mirror Daily, United States) – If you happen to be a fan of “oldies but goldies”, the original Pokémon Blue, Red, and Yellow will be back in almost the exact same format they were in the 1990s. Nintendo has just announced that their successful games will be re-released, only for a better performing platform.
The original three games of Pokémon were launched around twenty years ago. The Mario hitmaker company has announced that they’re staging a comeback. They will once again adorn the screens of your portable gaming platforms to battle it out against your friends. However, technology has taken quite a few leaps forward since then.
The Game Boy isn’t what it once was.
That’s why Nintendo has announced that the old videogames will be re-released on Nintendo 3DS, their virtual console that would make a better match. However, most of us have seen the consequences of an old game remastered. Nintendo will be doing no such thing. In fact, they will be releasing Pokémon Blue, Pokémon Red, and Pokémon Yellow just as they were back then.
That’s right, the black and white, monochromatic graphics will be returning, along with the 4-bit background music to transport you back into your childhood. The re-release might appeal better as a token of nostalgia, a wish to revisit old games, or for fans of the franchise who were too young to play them in the first place. Anyone hoping for a modern version of those three games, however, will be sorely disappointed.
Everything will remain as it was, with one notable exception where multiplayer was concerned. Back when the games originally released, players were required to use the Link Cable to either trade or battle with their friends. The devices had to be connected through a wire, which means players had to stand next to each other.
But, WiFi will make it easier. Through the internet connection available on Nintendo 3DS, players will be able to battle or trade each other without standing nose to nose. The wireless functionality will put a bit of a twist to the old game. Now, it will also allow battling others online, which should greatly vary your opponents.
Pokémon Blue, Red, And Yellow will be launched on February 27th, 2016, which marks the precise 20th anniversary of their original release in the west. It will be an excellent sample on how the entire series first started.
And, if it’s not enough, Nintendo estimated that their upcoming, augmented-reality Pokémon game will also arrive on the same day.
