This is why in New York City,February is the month marked as Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention. In order to help people understand more about teen dating abuse, an advertising campaign has been announced.
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced that a campaign has started on social media. This campaign is named “Control Isn’t Love”. This social media program is going to educate teens and their parents by offering information about teen dating abuse.
The target of this online campaign is to raise awareness about teen dating abuse and what can be done in order to prevent it. It is also going to offer information about places that help people get over dating abuse and where they can seek help.
The Governor mentioned that they want to reach teens in order to make them understand the difference between a healthy relationship and an abusive one. He also said that they want parents to take this matter seriously and to create a better bond between teens and their parents. He believes that this is the only way to stop teen dating abuse.
In order to attract teens and to speak their language, the campaign is going to feature iconic conversation hearts. The messages that are going to be put on these conversation hearts are about control and abuse. For instance, these hearts contain messages like “Don’t Wear That”, “Loser”, and “Answer Me”.
This online campaign is also going to benefit from a hashtag (#controlistlove) and a link to a website that has more resources and information. The Hotline for Domestic and Sexual Violence is also available on the posts. The hotline is free and it provides 24-hour info in Spanish, English, and many other languages.
The online campaign that wants to raise awareness of teen dating abuse is going to be found on Instagram and Facebook. This is an interesting way of raising awareness for this type of problem. Due to the fact that it targets young adults and teens, an online campaign on Facebook and Instagram is a great idea.
