(Mirror Daily, United States) – The former White House ethics chief blasted White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders for misusing her official Twitter account to complain about being kicked out of a Virginia restaurant.
On Friday, the press secretary was denied service at the Red Hen restaurant in Lexington, Virginia, simply because her boss is Donald Trump. Red Hen’s owner Stephanie Wilkinson reportedly reminded Sanders that the restaurant cares about “honesty, and compassion, and cooperation,” unlike the Trump administration.
Sanders took to Twitter to reply to a press’ request about the incident. Yet, she used the White House Twitter account, which has 3 million followers. She underlined that she had to “politely” leave when Wilkinson kicked her out.
Her actions say far more about her than about me. I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so,
Sanders tweeted.
Schaub Blasts Sarah Sanders
The former White House’s ethics chief Walter Shaub thinks that the press secretary’s action is illegal. Schaub blasted Sanders for not caring “even a tiny little bit” about the ethics rules governing her office.
Schaub tweeted that she violated 5 CFR 2635.702(a), a federal rule that bars government employees from using their position for personal gain. He likened her behavior to an ATF agent refusing to leave a restaurant when asked and pulling out his badge to make a point.
The ex-ethics chief insisted that the official Twitter account should not be used to smear a private business “for personal reasons.” The move could have deadly consequences for that business. Indeed, Red Hen’s Yelp rating plunged to two stars after the incident.
Wilkinson reportedly threw Sanders and her family out of the restaurant because she was upset Sanders defended Trump’s criticism of transgender military members. The Red Hen owner insisted that the staff has some LGBT members who refused to serve Sanders.
